The Modern Maker Model
A low-stress, one-person business model
This year I posted about how I’d be making $1M.
(Or at least trying to)
And I said I’d do this without any employees.
So, I made some costly decisions:
1/ Scaled down my agency from 12 people to 3
2/ Put an end date to replant it in new hands
3/ Got rid of costly systems and tools
4/ Eliminated all contractors
And went all in on writing, coaching & consulting.
The reason this worked out is because of my Modern Maker model:
I went for efficiency over volume.
I went for low stress over high stress.
I went for hands on results over programs.
And it’s currently bringing in $50k/mo at 99% profit margins (excluding minor tools).
Sure, I lost a handful of clients who were not aligned with this model.
But as a result, I:
Can work from anywhere
Never take a sales call again
Limit my spots and know how many I can serve
Went from 12-hour days to 4-5 hour days
Can serve 75+ clients at high leverage
Work with a laptop, a phone and some docs
Raise my prices as I get closer to my income goal
And it blows my mind each and every day that I get to work with some of the most talented individuals, from professional musicians to copywriters to marketing wizards to incredible designers to career consultants to business owners and coaches.
The Modern Maker model allows me to be excited to work and serve others every day.
Because this model too helped my clients:
SVJ travel the world with a laptop in hand
PL buy a car for his wife and presents for his children
HP quit his 9-5 and start his own writing business
CH fly out to Texas to visit family and support her sister after surgery, without the stress of financial strain and time
TE have a jam packed schedule while doubling g down on 7–8 hours of sleep
And for me, it’s the impact I get to have on these students which money can’t buy that drives me to my personal goals.
I’m a hippy at heart and want to spread every ounce of knowledge to this Modern Maker family.
So they too can experience leverage & freedom.
